![]() Jesus, lady! We LIBERALS have cars too, you know. MARGE: I just wondered how far you had to walk. I have a job, so it’s ok to talk to me, now. RUSSELL: I’m here on my lunch hour, man! I can’t come back to work late, they’ll have my ass. MARGE: The best thing is probably to just sit quietly and wait. Unless of course you’ve done something wrong, then they’re up your ass with a microscope. Keep you waiting as long as they want to. MARGE: I don’t think you need to know my name. RUSSELL: Well, I can’t tell all my “convict” friends that some nice lady helped me. RUSSELL: Maybe kick down a few bucks, get a nice suit or something. MARGE: I’m sure if you dressed a little better, that might help too. Thank you for letting me know you can actually see or FEEL through your instinctual animal feelings that there is criminal written all over my face. Then you come home after realizing you forgot to put on deodorant and wonder why in the hell nobody has been talking to you. That must be why people cross the street when they see me comin’. What you just said about you being a criminal was exactly what my gut was telling me. When the fight or flight kicks in you should listen to that. ![]() RUSSELL: Unless you wanted me to come sit next to you. RUSSELL: There are five empty chairs I could sit in. MARGE: It doesn’t really concern me if you buy it or not. MARGE: I was just being polite by making more room. RUSSELL: When I walked through that door you thought: Rapist, murderer, purse-stealer. So I don’t make you nervous, but I bother you? MARGE: Look, I was in the middle of something, if you don’t mind. It’s a different acting style from theatre and film, and just like in live theatre, you never know what might happen, but it’s all part of the experience! Check out more of Askew’s work on their website at. ![]() ![]() The Zoom world of play-readings that have become more and more popular in the era of social distancing are really a fascinating thing. It’s also great to be working with Trevor Pekas again, who I just acted with in February’s “The Last Butterfly” play reading (which feels like a million years ago, wow!) This one has some plot twists I don’t want to give away, but I’ll just say that the script is delightfully clever, witty, and takes all sorts of unexpected turns that are fun to play around with as an actor. Immediately following that, I’ll be playing Grace in the 10-minute comedy “Assumptions,” by Lynne Bolen. area and I enjoyed rehearsing with them online. My co-stars are also really awesome actors from the L.A. The talking heads nature of the script, written by playwright Adam Szudrich from Australia, totally lends itself to the Zoom platform. In “One Night Fran,” I play Holly, one of three women recounting her recent date with a mysterious woman named Fran. However, Obed and Micheal at Askew have revived the readings over Zoom! Recently I reprised my role as a leaf in Diane Walker’s “Falling” and I’m thrilled to be reading for two of my other favorite plays from this series over Zoom-”One Night Fran” and “Assumptions.” Originally from L.A., Askew Theatre was launching their first-ever Rogue Valley event, which featured 10-minute plays from around the world.ĭue to COVID-19, March’s performances were canceled just before opening night. Back in March, I was excited to participate in Askew Theatre Company’s “Out of the Box 10 Minute Play Festival” in Ashland.
